I love this scene, so much of the meaning of the film is right here. Michael is the alpha male, Nick is the sweet, sensitive one. One shot is the link to their final moment together later in the film. These two men love each other and that relationship is central to the story. Rip Cimino and John Wayne. Two legends.
John Wayne still the biggest draw in pictures. Who else thinks Christopher Walken looks smokin" hot here. It sounds like the movie it self in a way touched your heart. Let me love you. This makes me laugh a Mother pickin his son shouting dyrak out of a bar tell you what she could take all of them but sad, sad it didn"t happen.
4:16 The Viet Cong is both cruel and hilarious. By the sound of your voice, you are not very old. I think it"s great that you have an interest in cinema, that transends you. I just rewatched the film for the first time since i was a kid. It is such a powerful movie, and i agree, that it"s almost a relief to see characters be developed properly without a lot of exposition. Long shots, without a bunch of meaningless talk. I like how Deer let you Deer Hunter. about peoples sacrifices for Deer to liberty, everyone needs to remember. The Deer thank a Veteran. They should have just called it Deer Hunter.
Johnny Carson oozed class. DeNiro, Walken, and Savage star as three steelworker friends from Pittsburgh who leave for the war in Vietnam. This powerful film examines their lives just before they leave during the war and how it changes them when they come back. This was one of the first films ever to seriously detail the war in Vietnam and how it forever changed the lives of those who served. The film does it very well. Best Picture 1978 On a scale of one to ten... 8. Will never forget this. I must watch this film again. It"s been about 25 years since I last saw it. It affected me greatly then. I have been too scared to watch it again. And old people complain to me: movie trailers give away everything nowadays! Yeah try 37 years ago.
This is history. Francis Ford Coppola presents an award to Michael Cimino, then John Wayne makes his last public appearance. Meanwhile Gregory Peck and Lawrence Olivier is in the crowd applause him. Then the ending credits with all those movie stars! It was the perfect end of the old Hollywood... A bunch of 35 year old men decide to quit their jobs, join the army in order to fight in Viet Nam. All wind up in the same Army outfit. All are somehow captured. Lucky enough to survive a game of 50-50 Russian roulette and escape. If you can swallow all that then I guess you will think it"s a good movie. If a movie is a fantasy like Star Wars I will cut them some slack. If it"s supposed to be a serious-message movie at least try to base it in the real world. Maybe the message was too deep for me.
